Aerial archaeology in Flanders has only really developed over the last twenty years ; previously the region was scantly prospected. Systematic research work has now covered the eastern and western provinces of Flanders. It is not possible here to give a detailed inventory of alI discoveries in northern Belgium, but up to 40 000 diapositives have been memorised at Ghent University, covering periods from Prehistory to modern times.
