The excavation carried out at Varesnes (Oise) brought several settlements to light (from La Tène D, from the 1st to the 3rd centuries, from the 10th and 11th centuries). These settlements were all dedicated to farming. The Gallo-Roman and medieval settlements are linked to the rearing of cattle. This activity which is still going on nowadays in this area of wet meadows, could thus clearly be established from the Gallo Roman period on.
