Between 1990 and 2002, numerous field operations were carried out on Middle Palaeolithic open air sites lying along the projected routes of major development works in western Picardy. Systematic surveys and excavations gave the opportunity to draw up a highly detailed chrono-stratigraphic framework for the Palaeolithic occupations. The excavations, carried out over large areas, shed new light on Middle Palaeolithic open air occupation.
