The sites excavated over the past ten years in preventive archeology in Escaut and Deûle valleys bring new elements to the Deûle-Escaut regional group of Late Neolithic identified in 1984. The quality of the documentation is related, in particular, to the highly structured nature of the settlements and the richness of the remains associated to them. Since 2008, the interdisciplinary and multiannual study of these sites belongs to one of the main themes of Inrap’s scientific program : The Late Neolithic on the periphery of the Paris Basin. The objective of this program is to define the cultural components of Deûle-Escaut and its geographical extension in a reliable chronological framework. It will also specify its origin, duration, evolution and try to identify the relationships with contemporary cultural groups of the surrounding areas.
