Two dry years in succession (1989 and 1990) have favoured exceptional progress in our knowlege of the Vendée bocage, thus permitting a first synthesis of ground occupation. This article presents the main data to be developed into a monograph on the milieu studied on the methods used, on the various structures described and their geographical distribution. A few remarkable sites are shown and the question of « local » peculiarities is referred to. Lasty, we refect on those «  selection » factors applied to the locating, or materializing of archaeological structures, and which can parlty influence the vision we may have of the past history of our region.
