The purpose of the international, interdisciplinary project CRAFTS (structures, economic function and social position of craft industry in Roman times in Italy and the western provinces) is to gather as much evidence as possible on craftsmen, their social status, the organization of craft production, the structures of production and distribution of manufactured goods, using a homogeneous methodological approach. This article presents results on various nonfood craft productions in a rural environment within the Roman provinces of Gaul Belgica (stages of the chaîne opératoire, structures of production, sites, links with other economic activities in the rural environment)
